Yesterday, Piedmont WellStar Healthplans, created through a partnership of Piedmont Healthcare and WellStar Health System, announced a new Medicare Advantage Plan for Seniors called Piedmont Wellstar Medicare Choice (HMO). The new senior medicare advantage plan will be offered in Cherokee, Cobb, Coweta, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Henry, Paulding, Pickens, Rockdale and Spalding counties.
The physician network will be comprised of the Piedmont Physician Group, Wellstar Medical Group and a network of affiliated independent physicians. The Piedmont WellStar Medicare Choice plan will use a coordinated approach to provide healthcare services to their medicare advantage members according to Dr. Kristyn Greifer, Co-Medical Director. The Healthplan will also use case managers, comprised of Nurse RN’s, and Licensed Social Workers to coordinate and educate members about their healthcare needs.
“We’re also able to keep costs low for our plan members and save them money on their healthcare, which was important to us because we know that many seniors are on a fixed income,” said Ronnie Brownsworth, M.D., CEO of Piedmont WellStar Healthplans. A comparison of Medicare Advantage HMO plans with Drug Coverage on Medicare.gov indicates the Piedmont WellStar Medicare Choice plan has the lowest Out of Pocket Spending Limit and lowest Total Estimated Annual Cost for plans offered in 30303 zip code.
The Healthplan plans to attract Medicare members through its sales force, independent insurance agents and brokers. Medicare Advantage open enrollment begins on October 15th and goes until December 7th 2013 with a January 1, 2014 effective date.
