American Express, one of the founding partners of Small Business Saturday, announced this past week its planned activities for 2017 Small Business Saturday Event. This recognition of small businesses is in its seventh year and held every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The idea is to create awareness and encourage residents in local communities to support their neighborhood businesses throughout the United States. The neighborhood clothing store, or hardware store, or corner cafe are all examples of small businesses this initiative seeks to support. According to Elizabeth Rutledge, Executive Vice President, Global Advertising and Brand Management at American Express, “we are proud to see how Small Business Saturday continues to inspire communities. This year we will again celebrate the small businesses that make our neighborhoods feel like home. We’ve seen firsthand that when small businesses thrive, our neighborhoods, towns and cities thrive. So this Small Business Saturday we encourage everyone to visit the diverse range of small businesses that make up the fabric of their communities.” In addition to the behind the scenes preparation for this event, American Express is announcing the following activities: Shop Small® for the Holidays with Etsy – sellers on Etsy will holiday pop up markets in a half dozen cities including Wichita, Kansas.
