Volunteer for the IRS?

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is seeking volunteers for two (2) community based programs. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program are the two (2) programs sponsored by the IRS. Both programs offer free tax help for citizens with low to medium income, seniors, Native Americans, citizens with disabilities, and citizens with limited English comprehension.

During the last tax season volunteers from the VITA and TCE prepared over 3.5 million tax returns according to the statement from the IRS. The IRS provides five (5) reasons citizen who are interested in supporting their community should volunteer.

  2. Volunteer sites are set up in local communities
  3. No Prior Tax Preparation experience required
  4. Free tax law training and materials
  5. Continuing education credits for tax professionals
